Can I have a Medigap plan with my Medicare Advantage coverage?

A Medicare Question
During Open Enrollment, can I buy a Medigap policy to go with my Medicare Advantage plan? I would like some help with all the hospital copayments.
Answer to a Medicare question

During Open Enrollment, Medicare beneficiaries have many questions. This is a good one.

Unfortunately, the answer is no. You cannot buy a Medigap policy to go with a Medicare Advantage plan during the Open Enrollment Period or at any other time. A Medigap policy, also known as Medicare supplement insurance, works only with Original or Traditional Medicare. It is illegal for any insurance agent to sell a Medigap policy to someone who has elected Medicare Advantage.

Those on Medicare Advantage are responsible for the copayments the plan sets. If this is a concern, take time during the Open Enrollment Period to check out copayments of other plans.
