65 Incorporated Study: Veterans Uninformed about Medicare

Medicare eligible, senior-aged military veterans may disproportionately be making costly Medicare mistakes, according to initial results of a study conducted by the company 65 Incorporated.

About 75 percent of survey respondents said they did not know military veterans late to enroll in Medicare would incur a late enrollment penalty.

In addition, about 20 percent of veterans have been informed that they need not worry about Medicare as long as they had VA benefits, according to the survey.

R.N. Diane Omdahl, Medicare expert and co-founder of 65 Incorporated, said the current Medicare late enrollment penalty adds 10 percent to the Part B premium for each year of delayed enrollment.
