What is Medicare-Question
What happens if I refuse to pay the Part D IRMAA?

Answer to What is Medicare question
The Affordable Care Act mandated that higher income beneficiaries must pay an income-related monthly adjustment amount for Medicare Part D, prescription drug coverage.

If you are subject to IRMAA and don’t pay the additional premium, Medicare will disenroll you (meaning discontinue coverage) from the prescription drug plan. If you get your drug coverage through a Medicare Advantage or employer or union group plan, you will be disenrolled from that coverage.

To avoid loss of drug coverage, it’s best to pay the monthly amount.
