Does Medicare cover dental care?
Medicare does not cover routine dental care, preventive services, most dental procedures such as fillings and tooth extractions, or dental devices like dentures and braces. Some Medicare Advantage plans offer dental coverage but there generally is a dollar limit, such as $1,500.
Medicare can cover dental procedures that are an integral part of a covered service, such as reconstruction of a jaw following an accident. Medicare can also pay for treatment to address dental complications after radiation, chemotherapy, and/or surgery for head and neck cancer and oral examinations treatments preceding a kidney transplant or heart valve replacement.
