Does a Medicare drug plan cover over-the-counter (OTC) drugs? |
No, a Part D prescription drug plan generally covers only prescription drugs and won’t pay for over-the-counter drugs like acetaminophen and cough medicine. |
The one exception is the over-the-counter versions of insulin. A Part D plan will cover insulin that is available without a prescription. Some Medicare Advantage plans offer have benefits for OTC drugs. Check the plan information for details. |
